Little Girl

By Diane Harris

 Little Girl

The voice is beckoning from the mountain high.
A purpose in mind as her little feet step lightly.
“Where are you going?” someone from behind her calls.
“Just for a walk with Frisky.” She returns the question.

To my mountain where I can run free and play and nap when I please.
Free from wearing shoes, of doors, and windows,
of noise and chores left behind.
( We have to bring the cows in from the pasture on our way back.)

To my secret place, way up high, where I become one with the sky.
My friends are there, I hear them announce our arrival.
“There, who was that? Did you see who scampered to duck behind?”
I’m so glad to be alone up high, feeling the warm sun brown my skin.

“Oh my Father, I feel you smiling upon me today. “
The warmth of your love fills my heart with joy.
I am one with you in the comfort of your presence.
Does anyone know you are here, if you would just tell me so.
Why have you created this tree for me? The sky so blue, the grass so green?

You have splattered a bouquet of flowers for me,
A rainbow of colors on the hillside I see.
If I reach out I can almost touch the valley below,
Unaware of my secret place, way up high.

Listen to the teasing harmony of my little feathered friends, and
Who is darting here and there scolding me for bringing my dog?
Are the raindrops your tears for me, you little girl?
I know not why but please don’t cry, my Father, when I love you so.
Your beloved Jesus, who is my hero, and I love too, has died for me.
He will help me to be good and keep you happy, my Father.
You have given to me all that I see, all that I hear, especially when You are near.
Thank you, my Father, for loving me, for my heart so pure and so clear.
